Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

After church today we spent several hours at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, which is 5 miles from our house.

Our videographer, Hannah, shot this fine video of a young raccoon that was running around on the boardwalk. He seemed to be a bit disturbed by all the people, but wasn’t sure where to go.  There was a lot of rain recently and perhaps his home had been buried in the swamp.

In addition to our coon friend, we saw a painted bunting, startlingly lush plant growth, a couple gators, a turtle, and this rather dangerous young water moccasin, also known as a cotton mouth.

But not only did we receive all these lovely sights from the swamp. We gave back as well. Sarah’s hat blew off into the swamp and a short while later she tossed her pacifier in as well.
