Homeschool Exercise (or one silly sight)

One of the areas we haven’t worked too hard on for school the last two years has been physical education.  Not to say our kids are couch potatoes.  In Denver we hiked or skied every week.  Now they go outside and run around, play in the back woods, ride their scooters and bikes, etc.  But we haven’t done any sort of regimented program.

This past week, if you were up and about around 6:30am on certain mornings you would have seen a very strange or perhaps a very silly sight.  You would have seen 2 adults, 2 kids, one dog on leash and one baby in stroller alternately walking and running down the road.  (I’m just hoping there’s no one around with a video camera.)

We started a 6 week training program to run a 5 K.  Brian and I think this is great for the kids (but they’ll tell you differently!)  Pretty sad for us though, if you know we did a marathon 1 year and a half ago. (As far as excuses go…we have moved twice and had a baby since then.)

So, we’ll see if this works out.  Week 1 down, 5 to go.  It’s a very easy introduction. This week we did one and two min runs interspersed with walking.  Next week we’ll go to 3 and 5 min runs (still interspersed with walking.) The 2 non-stroller kids can handle it, it’s just a question of whether or not they WILL. (And perhaps a question of Mom continuing to get up at those ungodly hours…)
